QUICK AND EASY SWEET PICKLES 
1 qt. jar cucumbers
1 tbsp. mixed pickling spice
1/4 tsp. powdered alum
1 tbsp. salt
1 tsp. prepared horseradish
1 c. sugar

Fill jar with cucumbers. Add all other ingredients except sugar. Add cold water to top of jar; seal well. Let stand at least 2 months before opening jar. When ready, pour off liquid and discard. Slice pickles in half; add the 1 cup of sugar. Let stand in refrigerator 24 hours before using.
