MARTHA WASHINGTON FRUIT CAKE | |
1 c. butter 5 eggs 2 c. sugar 3 c. flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 pkgs. dates, chopped 3/4 c. milk 1/2 lb. raisins 2 c. broken pecans 1 c. cherries 4 slices pineapple Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time. Add flour and milk alternately. Fold in fruits and nuts. Bake at 325 degrees. Makes 4 layers. FILLING: 2 c. sugar 3/4 c. milk 2 tbsp. flour 2 egg whites 2 tbsp. butter Vanilla 2 coconuts Add flour to sugar and mix. Add milk and butter. Cook until thickens slightly, remove from heat and add vanilla. Pour slowly into stiffly beaten egg whites an beat until glazy, add coconut and spread on cake. |
