SPICE CAKE WITH CUSTARD FROSTING 
1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 c. flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. sour milk
1 c. raisins, chopped
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. boiling water

Cream shortening and add sugar. Add eggs one at a time. Beat well. Sift flour with salt and add alternately with sour milk. Add cinnamon to raisins. Put baking soda and boiling water together and pour over raisins. Add this to batter last. Grease and flour two 9" round pans. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes. Remove from pans and cool.

CUSTARD FROSTING:

1/2 c. sugar
2 heaping tbsp. flour
1 egg
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. butter
2 tbsp. powdered sugar

Mix the sugar and flour together. Beat in egg and add milk. Add to flour mixture and add vanilla. Cook and stir until thick. Cool. Beat butter and powdered sugar until light. Add custard mixture and beat until thick. Frost cake.
