S. O. S. (Military Creamed Beef) | |
May be eaten at any meal = breakfast with eggs - lunch with potatoes - dinner with salad (on toast at all meals). 1 lb. chopped meat 1/8 lb. butter 4 tbsp. flour Add according to taste - onions, seasonings White bread sliced as a base Milk (any kind - skim, reg. etc.) Note!!! You can replace chopped meat with shredded ham. Difference being Navy style. 1. Braise chopped meat (or ham) in frying pan until cooked. Drain off any fats, then set awhile. 2. Melt butter in large saucepan. When completely melted add 2 or 4 tablespoons of flour. Mix until flour is completely yellow. 3. On low heat add milk until as needed. Stir mixture until thickens. When at desired thickness add chopped meat or ham to sauce. 4. Season with spices (pepper, salt, paprika, etc.) to taste. For breakfast serve with eggs any style, on the side. Lunch and dinner - serve on toast with potatoes (any style) on side. Also while making S.O.S. in saucepan, add fried onions to taste. |
