GRANDMOTHER'S POPPY SEED BREAD &
DOUGHNUTS
 
2 c. scalded sweet milk
1/2 c. water
3/4 lb. (3 sticks) butter
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
5 eggs
2 yeast (dry pack)
Flour

Blend butter and sugar, then add hot milk. Dissolve the yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. Cool, then add eggs to mixture. Then start working in flour, not too stiff. Cover, let rise to double.

BREAD: Roll part of dough out, not too thin. Spread on poppy seed filling. Roll up (like jelly roll), place in bread pan, let it rise to double. Bake at 400 degrees for 5 minutes, then turn heat back to 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.
