1 1/2 c. bread crumbs, made from toasted bread slices
7 c. baking apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced (about 5 or 6 apples)
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
2 tbsp. butter

Butter a 2-quart casserole and line with one cup of bread crumbs. Layer with apples,. Mix sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sprinkle over apples. Melt butter and mix with remaining bread crumbs and spread on top of apples. Place in preheated 350 degree oven for 30 minutes or until top is well browned. If preferred, this can be done with alternated layers of bread crumbs and apples, or you can pour 1/2 cup of orange juice over the top to flour. Serves 4 to 6.
