HOT WATER DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 
2 c. flour
2 c. sugar
Pinch of salt
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 c. butter
1 c. boiling water
1 heaping tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. water
1/2 c. buttermilk
2 eggs, well beaten
1 tbsp. vanilla

Sift flour, sugar, salt and cocoa into bowl. Lay butter on top of flour and pour hot water over top of all and stir well.

Dissolve soda in 1 tbsp. cold water, then fill cup to 1/2 full with buttermilk. Add to mixture and beat well, then add eggs and vanilla and beat again. Pour into well greased and floured pan and bake 35 to 40 minutes in 350 degree oven.

ICING:

1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. cream

Boil until soft ball forms in cold water. Add 1/2 cup pecans (chopped). Let cool until lukewarm. Spread on cake.
