THUMBPRINT COOKIES 
1 c. (2 sticks) butter, softened
1/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
Jam or jelly

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix butter, sugar, vanilla and beat until creamy. Gradually add flour and salt. Mix well. Shape rounded teaspoonfuls into balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Indent center with thumb. Fill each with 1/4 teaspoon preserves. Bake 20 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Store when cool in airtight container. Makes 2 1/2 dozen.
