BOSTON BROWN BREAD 
1 1/2 c. water
1 c. raisins
2 tsp. baking soda
1 egg
1 tsp. shortening
2 3/4 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Boil water, take off fire, add raisins and let cool. In bowl mix remaining ingredients. After raisins and water are cooled, pour into the mixture and stir well. Bake at 350 degrees about an hour.
