MY MOTHERS CARAMEL ICING 
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
dash of salt
3 tbsp. evaporated milk
1 1/2 c. confectioners sugar

Melt butter in saucepan. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Cook over low heat for 2 minutes, stirring constantly, until mixture boils. Remove from heat and cool 10 minutes. Gradually beat in confectioners sugar until icing reaches spreading consistency. Spread on cool cake.
