BUTTERMILK BISCUITS
3 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. buttermilk

Heat oven to 450 degrees. Grease cookie sheet.

Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large bowl. Cut in shortening with pastry blender until consistency is like coarse meal. Add buttermilk and stir just until a soft dough forms.

Turn dough onto floured surface; sprinkle lightly with flour. Knead gently 10-12 times until no longer sticky. Roll or press to 1/2 inch thick. Cut with butter.

Place biscuits with sides touching on cookie sheet. Bake for 10-14 minutes or until golden brown. These freeze well. Reheat in microwave 1 minute on medium wrapped in paper towel.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.
