BEAN SOUP 
3 qts. water or chicken stock
Ham or ham bone
2 sliced or diced carrots
2 stalks celery
1-1 1/2 c. chopped onion
8 oz. can tomato sauce
3 c. soaked, dried navy or northern beans
Salt and pepper

Combine all, place in Dutch oven, cover and bake 4-4 1/2 hours at 325 degrees. After beans are done, add pearl barley (optional) and 2 teaspoons liquid smoke. Serve with corn bread or crackers.
