TRI-LEVEL BROWNIES 
1 c. quick oats
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
6 tbsp. butter, melted
1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt

Mix together dry ingredients and blend in melted butter. Pat mixture into an 11 x 7 x 1 1/2 inch baking pan. Bake in 350 degree oven for 10 minutes. Remove and cool while preparing second layer.

SECOND LAYER:

1 square unsweetened chocolate
2/3 c. flour
1/4 c. milk
1/2 c. walnuts or pecans
1 egg
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt

Combine sugar, melted butter and melted cooled chocolate. Add egg and beat well with wooden spoon. Stir together flour, baking powder and salt. Add half of dry ingredients to chocolate mixture. Mix until blended. Stir in remaining dry ingredients. Stir in chopped nuts. Spread on baked layer evenly to edge. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.

THIRD LAYER:

1 square unsweetened chocolate
1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
2 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Melt chocolate and add 2 tablespoons butter in saucepan. Stir constantly. Remove from heat. Stir in powdered sugar and vanilla. Blend in enough hot water (approximately 2 tablespoons) until frosting is smooth and almost pourable. Spread over cooled bars. Score frosting and place a walnut or pecan half of each square. Cut into 16 or 20 squares.
