BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
7 lbs. cucumbers
3 c. pickling lime
5 lbs. sugar
3 pts. vinegar
3 tbsp. pickling spice
2 tbsp. celery seed
2 tbsp. turmeric

Dissolve 3 cups lime in 2 gallons of water. Add sliced cucumbers and let set for 24 hours, stirring several times. (Be careful - cucumbers will become brittle). Dip out and put in clear water, changing 4 times and soaking 1 hour each time. Bring to boil sugar, vinegar and spices. Pour over cucumbers and let set overnight. Next day boil slowly 1 hour. Let cool; pack in jars and seal.
