1 c. cornmeal
1 c. flour
1 med. onion, finely chopped
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1 egg
1/2 c. milk

Mix the first six ingredients together. Add the egg and stir it in. Add enough milk to make a heavy paste. Drop tablespoons of the mixture into hot fat. Cook until done all the way through and golden brown. Drain well and keep warm until served.
