ROLLED SUGAR COOKIES | |
2 c. flour 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1 stick soft butter (or 1/2 c. Crisco) 1 egg 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tbsp. milk 1 c. sugar Colored sugar crystals In a large bowl beat the butter and the sugar together until there are no lumps of butter left. Add the egg, beat until very smooth. Add the vanilla and the milk; beat until smooth. In another bowl put the flour, salt and baking powder. Stir gently so ingredients mix. Add the flour mix to the creamy mix. Beat until all the flour is blended in. Roll up the dough with your hands. Form into a ball. Wrap in clear plastic and chill 2 or 3 hours or overnight. Use a rolling pin and roll out part of the dough on a lightly floured counter. The dough should be about 1/8 inch thick. Using a cookie cutter, cut the cookie dough into desired shapes. Using a flat spatula, lift the cookies gently and place them on a very lightly greased cookie sheet. Sprinkle colored sugar crystals on cookies BEFORE baking. Bake at 400 degrees for 6 to 8 minutes. They are done when they are lightly browned around the edges only. |
