APPLESAUCE - SPICE COOKIES 
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/4 c. unsweetened applesauce, drained
1 egg
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. raisins
1 c. chopped walnuts

In large bowl, beat sugar and shortening until light and fluffy. Add drained applesauce and egg; blend well. Add dry ingredients; mix well. Stir in raisins and nuts. Refrigerate overnight.

Drop by heaping teaspoonfuls onto greased (or non-stick) cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees for 11 to 16 minutes. Immediately remove from cookie sheets. Makes 3 dozen. Ice with cinnamon confectioners' sugar glaze if desired.

CINNAMON GLAZE:

1 c. confectioners' sugar
1/4 tsp. vanilla
4 to 4 1/2 tsp. milk
1/4 tsp. cinnamon

Combine.
