OATMEAL DROP COOKIES 
1/2 c. butter
1/4 c. white sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt (opt.)
1/3 c. buttermilk or sour milk
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1/2 c. raisins
1/2 c. dates, chopped
1 c. raw, rolled oats

Cream butter and sugar. Blend in egg and vanilla. Sift together flour, soda and salt; add buttermilk and mix well. Stir in oats, nuts and fruit. Place rounded teaspoon of dough on greased cookie sheet. Bake in hot oven, 375 to 400 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. Makes 3 1/2 dozen. Store in covered tin. Freezes well.
