DATE ICE BOX COOKIES 
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1 c. shortening
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
Few drops of maple flavoring
1 c. nuts, chopped
1 c. chopped dates
2 tbsp. cream or Half & Half
1 tsp. baking soda

Thorougly cream shortening and sugar. Add beaten eggs, vanilla, maple flavoring and cream. Mix well. Add sifted dry ingredients, then nuts and dates. Mix well. Shape into rolls about 7 inch long. Wrap in wax paper. Keep in the freezer until you want to bake them. Slice and put on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes or until done.
