DATE - NUT BARS 
1 c. flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter or shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. (7 oz.) dates, finely cut
1 c. nuts, coarsely chopped (filberts, pecan, walnuts, etc.)

Cream butter, sugar and eggs until fluffy. Add vanilla. Sift dry ingredients and blend in. Fold in dates and nuts. Pour into greased 7 x 11 x 1 1/2 inch pan. Bake at 375 degrees about 30 minutes or until firm to touch. When cool, sprinkle with confectioners sugar and cut into bars.
