SPICY APPLESAUCE CAKE 
2 c. sifted all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and allspice
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 1/2 c. sweetened applesauce
3/4 c. of dates, raisins, and walnuts

Line ungreased 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pan with aluminum foil. Sift flour with soda, salt, and spices. Cream butter with vanilla and sugars until light and fluffy. Add eggs and continue beating until very light. Add flour mixture alternately with the applesauce, stirring until just blended. Cut dates in small pieces and combine with raisins and walnuts. Fold in lightly. Turn into foiled lined loaf pan. Bake 1 hour at 325 degrees or until cake is spongy when touched.
