SPICY MOLASSES BALLS 
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg, unbeaten
1/4 c. molasses
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
Sugar (for tops of cookies)

Cream shortening and sugar; blend in egg and molasses. Sift together remaining ingredients; stir into creamed mixture; mix well. Shape into 3/4 inch balls; dip tops in sugar. Place on greased baking sheet. Bake in moderate 350 degree oven for 12 to 15 minutes. Makes about 4 dozen.
