APPLESAUCE CAKE 
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 c. butter
2 c. sweetened applesauce
1 c. raisins
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 c. water
2 eggs
3/4 c. chopped nuts

Sift dry ingredients together 3 times. Add shortening, water, eggs, and applesauce. Beat 2 minutes at medium speed with mixer. Add raisins and nuts. Bake in greased 13 x 9 inch pan for 45-50 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool and frost with following icing.

EASY PENUCHE ICING:

1/3 c. butter, melted
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. cream
Confectioners' sugar

Combine butter and sugar in saucepan. Bring to a boil; add cream. Remove from heat. Cool to lukewarm. Add enough confectioners' sugar for spreading consistency.
