SOUTHERN BELLE GRANDE CAKE 
2 1/4 c. cake flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. mace
1 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
4 eggs, separated
2/3 c. orange juice
Whipped cream, sweetened
Grated orange peel

Sift flour, baking powder, salt and 1/2 teaspoon mace together. Cream butter and sugar together well. Add well beaten egg yolks to butter, sugar mixture. Next add dry ingredients, orange juice and beat well. Fold in egg whites. Bake in 3 (8 inch) pans for 30 minutes at preheated temperature of 350 degrees.

Cool. Spread filling between and on top of cake and cover with whipped cream into which 1/2 teaspoon mace has been blended. Sprinkle with finely grated orange peel.

ORANGE FILLING:

1/2 c. sugar
2 tbsp. flour
Pinch of salt
4 tbsp. orange juice
1/2 tsp. lemon juice
2 tbsp. orange rind
1 egg
1 tbsp. butter

Sift sugar, flour, salt and add orange and lemon juice and orange rind. Add egg and butter. Mix well in top of double boiler and cook until thick and smooth, 10 minutes. Stir. Cool partially before frosting cake.
