BUTTERMILK YEAST ROLLS OR BREAD 
3 c. self-rising flour
3 tbsp. sugar
3 tbsp. shortening
1 c. buttermilk
1/4 c. warm water
1 pkg. yeast

Put flour in sifter and add sugar. Sift into large mixing bowl. Add shortening and mix well. Put yeast in cup with warm water. Make a well in the center of flour. Add buttermilk, yeast mixture, and mix with a spoon until well blended. Turn out on floured board. Knead well. Place in greased bowl. Cover and set in a warm place. Let rise until doubled. Punch down. Make into rolls of desired size and shape. Let rise until double in bulk.

Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown. Brush with melted butter or oil. Turn out. Makes 2 to 3 dozen rolls or 4 small loaves or 2 medium loaves.
