CHOCOLATE JEWEL DROPS 
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nuts
1 c. dates, chopped
2/3 c. maraschino cherries, divided
1/2 c. shredded coconut
1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 1/2 c. corn flakes

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; set aside. Cream together sugar and shortening. Add eggs, milk, and vanilla. Beat well. Blend in flour mixture. Stir in nuts, dates and 1/3 cup maraschino cherries, chopped. Stir in chocolate chips and coconut. Drop by rounded teaspoonsful into crushed corn flakes and toss, coating lightly. Place on cookie sheet. Top each cookie with a maraschino cherry half. Bake 12-15 minutes.
