SWEET STICK PICKLES | |
Cucumbers 3 3/4 c. vinegar 5 c. sugar 3 tbsp. plain salt 4 1/2 tsp. celery seed 4 1/2 tsp. turmeric 3/4 tbsp. mustard seed Wash fresh cucumbers. May use small cucumbers whole, or slice into strips or wedges if medium size. Pour boiling water over cucumbers, let stand overnight (or 5 hours), then drain and pack into jars (about 8 pints). Mix vinegar, sugar, salt and spices. Boil 5 minutes, then pour vinegar solution over pickles. Put jar lids on tightly and place in water bath for 5 minutes. Makes 8 pints. |
