BREAKFAST SCONES 
1/3 c. currants
2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
2 tbsp. sugar
Pinch of salt
1/4 c. plus 1 tbsp. butter
Milk
3/4 c. buttermilk
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tbsp. grated orange rind
Sugar

Soak currants in buttermilk. Combine flour and next 5 ingredients, mixing well. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add currants and buttermilk, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened, do not over mix. On lightly floured surface knead lightly 4 or 5 times. Roll to approximately 1/2 inch thickness, cut with 2 or 3 inch biscuit cutter. Place on lightly greased baking sheet. Brush with milk and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Makes 10-12.
