MARZIPAN BROWNIES 
3 oz. unsweetened chocolate
1/2 c. butter
3/4 c. four
1/4 tsp. baking powder
Dash salt
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. almond extract
7 oz. marzipan

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place chocolate and butter in a saucepan and heat over hot water until melted. Remove from heat; stir and then set aside to cool slightly.

Mix together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. Stir sugar into chocolate mixture and add eggs, one at a time, stirring after each addition. Add almond extract. Blend in flour mixture.

Evenly spread 1/2 of the batter into a greased 8-inch square pan; set aside. Soften marzipan and roll out into an 8-inch square. Place marzipan on top of batter in pan. Gently spread remaining batter evenly over marzipan layer.

Bake for 20-25 minutes. Remove from oven, let cool and cut into 2- inch squares. Yield: 16 brownies. Each: about 215 calories, 13 g fat, 45 mg cholesterol, 80 mg sodium.
