FRIED BISCUITS | |
1 qt. milk 1/4 c. sugar 2 2/3 pkg. dry yeast 1/2 c. shortening 3 tsp. salt 7 to 9 c. flour Add yeast to warm water. Add other ingredients and let dough rise. Knead, roll out and cut into small size biscuits. Drop into hot fat or shortening. The fat should be slightly hotter than 350 degrees. If the fat is too hot, the biscuits will sag in the middle. Leave in the fat long enough to lightly brown. This recipe makes about 7 dozen biscuits. Put the remainder on cookie sheets, freeze individually and store in Ziploc freezer bags. To use the frozen biscuits, remove them from the freezer, thaw and fry. You do not have to let them rise; they will "puff up" as soon as they are dropped into the hot fat. Great with Apple Butter. |
