OLD VIRGINIA APPLE CRUMB PIE | |
3 c. thinly sliced tart apples 1 (8") unbaked pie shell 1 tbsp. lemon juice 1/3 c. granulated sugar 4 tbsp. crunchy peanut butter 2 tbsp. butter 1/2 c. flour 1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 1 tbsp. grated lemon peel Arrange apple slices in pie shell. Sprinkle with lemon juice and granulated sugar. Cut peanut butter and butter (butter) into mixture of flour, brown sugar, spices and lemon peel. Spread over surface of pie. Bake in hot oven at 400 degrees for 45-60 minutes or until apples are tender. Or use 1 can sliced apples, well drained. Reduce granulated sugar to 1/4 cup and increase lemon juice to 2 tablespoons. Baking time will be 35-40 minutes. |
