1 lg. or 2 sm. pkg. dates, cut fine
1 c. sugar
1 c. water
1 tsp. orange rind, grated
3/4 c. finely chopped walnuts or pecans

Combine dates, sugar and water. Boil 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Beat until smooth. Add orange rind and nuts. Cool.

1 c. butter
1 1/2 c. dark brown sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. quick oatmeal
3 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
