FRUIT CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1 c. butter
3 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. pineapple (crushed)
1 1/2 c. coconut
3 c. flour
Dash of allspice, cloves, and cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. dates
1 c. blackberry jam
1 c. nuts
1 c. raisins

Cream sugar, butter, and eggs. Add dry ingredients and buttermilk. Add other ingredients. Pour into 3 (8 inch) pans that have been greased and lined with waxed lined greased and floured paper, saving 1 1/2 cups of batter for icing.

ICING:

2 c. syrup or brown sugar
1 1/2 c. milk
1 c. butter
1 1/2 c. cake batter

Mix and cook until stiff, about 25 minutes. Ice between layers on top of cake.
