CUCUMBER PICKLES 
12 ripe cucumbers
1/2 c. salt
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tbsp. whole cloves
1 tbsp. allspice
1 long cinnamon stick
1 tbsp. mustard seed
1/2 tsp. whole black pepper
4 c. vinegar

Cut cucumbers into thick slices, remove seeds. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup salt and let stand overnight. Rinse. Drop into syrup made by boiling sugar, spices, vinegar for 5 minutes. Simmer until tender. Pack into hot sterilized jars and seal at once.
