APPLE PIE BARS 
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter
1 beaten egg yolk, adding milk to 2/3 c.
1 1/2 c. crushed corn flakes
3/4 to 1 c. sugar and cinnamon mix
Sliced apples

Mix the 6 ingredients to make dough. Divide in half; roll to fit cookie sheet. Sprinkle crushed corn flakes. Fill with apple slices. Sprinkle with sugar/cinnamon mixture. Roll and place on top crust. Pinch edges; prick top with fork. Beat egg white until frothy, spread on crust. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes.

Mix 2 cups powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon Karo syrup thinned with boiling water. Pour on cooled bars.
