MARY GEARY'S BIG RED CAKE 
3/4 c. shortening
2 1/4 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 1/2 c. sour milk
3 c. flour
4 1/2 tbsp. cocoa
6 tbsp. red food coloring
3/4 tsp. baking powder
2/3 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 tsp. vinegar

Make cocoa and food coloring into a paste. Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs; add milk and flour, soda and salt. Add vinegar last. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 35-40 minutes.

RED CAKE ICING:

1 c. milk
5 tbsp. flour
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. Crisco
1 tsp. vanilla
Chopped nuts
