WHOLE GRAIN JAM SQUARES 
2 c. uncooked rolled oatmeal
1 3/4 c. flour
1 c. butter
1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. your favorite preserves (raspberry, peach, strawberry)

Combine all ingredients except the preserves, in large mixing bowl; beat at low speed with electric mixer until mixture is crumbly. Reserve 2 cups mixture, press remaining into bottom of greased 9 x 13-inch baking pan. Spread preserves evenly over this base; sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture.

Bake in preheated hot oven of 400°F for 25 - 30 minutes or until golden brown. Cool and cut into squares.

VARIATION: Omit the nuts in crumb mixture and add 1/4 tsp. nutmeg and 1/8 tsp. cloves. Then substitute combined 1 C. applesauce, 3/4 C. raisins and 1/2 C. chopped nuts for the preserves.
