AUSTRIAN CHOCOLATE BALLS | |
2 oz. (2 sq.) unsweetened chocolate 1/3 c. butter 1 egg plus 1 yolk 1 1/3 c. flour 1 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. vanilla or almond extract 1/2 c. finely chopped nuts Melt together chocolate and butter in medium saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat. Stir sugar, eggs and extract into chocolate mixture; blend well. Sift flour. Gradually stir in flour and nuts until well blended. Shape dough in 3/4 inch balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheets about 1 inch apart. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-12 minutes until firm to touch. Do not over bake. Immediately remove from cookie sheet. Cool and frost. FROSTING: In same saucepan, melt: 1 tbsp. butter Remove from heat. Add: 1 c. powdered sugar 2-3 tbsp. milk Blend well. Dip tops of cookies into frosting to cover. Allow to dry completely before storing cookies tightly covered with wax paper between the layers of cookies. Yield: 4 dozen cookies. |
