GREAT-GRANDMA'S POPPYSEED CAKE | |
2 1/2 c. sugar 3/4 c. butter Mix well. Soak 3/4 cup poppyseed to 1 1/8 cup milk for 1 hour. Add to sugar mixture. Separate 6 room temperature eggs. Beat whites until stiff. Sift 3 cups flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder. Add to mixture. Carefully fold in egg whites. Bake in 9 x 13 pan at 350 degrees until done, 30-40 minutes. TOPPING: 6 egg yolks 3/4 c. sugar 1 1/2 c. milk 1 1/2 tbsp. cornstarch Cook on low heat until thick and stiff. Cool. Frost cake. May add chopped nuts. |
