2 c. milk
1/2 c. butter
3 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 pkg. yeast
1/2 c. lukewarm water
1 c. potato flakes
8 c. flour
2 c. tart apples, finely diced
1 c. raisins
1 c. nutmeats
1 c. crushed pineapple (optional)
1 c. maraschino cherries (optional)

Mix milk, butter, eggs, salt, sugar and vanilla together. Add yeast, which has been softened in the lukewarm water. Stir well. Add remaining ingredients, mixing well. Let raise. Pinch off portions, about the size of an egg and fry in deep fat. Drain well. Roll in sugar.
