NEVER SAY I CAN'T MAKE HOMEMADE
BREAD
 
3 pkg. yeast (fast active)
1/2 c. warm water
1/2 c. sugar
4 tsp. salt
1/3 c. melted shortening
5 c. slightly warm water
16 to 18 c. flour (5 pound minus 2 c.)

Sprinkle yeast over warm water to dissolve. Combine sugar, salt, shortening to water. Mix thoroughly, add yeast mixture then add 1/2 flour mixing slightly add remaining flour and knead lightly until all flour is mixed in. Place in greased bowl (large tupperware bowl is great) cover-let rise until double in size (tupperware bowl lid pops off). Punch down, put in greased and floured bread tins, let rise again covering with light towel. When desired heighth bake. Butter tops of bread as soon as out of oven. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes. Yield: 4 loaves
