CRYSTAL CHIP SWEET PICKLES 
8 c. sugar
1 qt. vinegar
1 tbsp. salt
2 tsp. mixed pickling spices

Put pickles in hot water twice a day for 2 days. Third day cut in chunks and put in alum 1 1/2 tablespoon. Fourth day pour off the water and rinse, cover with hot syrup. Heat the syrup for 3 days and add green food coloring each day. Seal in jars. My kids call these Grandma Stewart's Christmas pickles.
