BAKED CHICKEN WITH SOUR CREAM &
WINE SAUCE
 
1/2 c. shortening
3 1/2 lb. chicken, cut into serving pieces
1 apple, finely chopped
1 sm. onion, minced
1/2 c. celery, diced
1 tbsp. flour
1 c. sour cream
1 c. white wine or water
Salt & pepper
Mushrooms (opt.)

Melt shortening in skillet. Brown chicken on all sides. Arrange in casserole dish. Sprinkle with apple, celery and onion.

Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Pour off all but 1 tablespoon shortening from skillet. Stir in flour, gradually stir in sour cream and wine. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until slightly thickened. Season with salt and pepper. Pour over chicken. Bake 1 1/2 hours. (Excellent with pheasant, too.)

This is an excellent recipe, the combination of flavors is fantastic. The only thing I added were a a few more apples - I used 3 instead of 1. Great recipe!

This was delicious and easy! I did it all in the skillet on the stove with cubes of chicken breast, and also used 3 apples. Big hit and I'll be making again.
