BAKED CHICKEN WITH SOUR CREAM & WINE SAUCE | |
1/2 c. shortening 3 1/2 lb. chicken, cut into serving pieces 1 apple, finely chopped 1 sm. onion, minced 1/2 c. celery, diced 1 tbsp. flour 1 c. sour cream 1 c. white wine or water Salt & pepper Mushrooms (opt.) Melt shortening in skillet. Brown chicken on all sides. Arrange in casserole dish. Sprinkle with apple, celery and onion. Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Pour off all but 1 tablespoon shortening from skillet. Stir in flour, gradually stir in sour cream and wine. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until slightly thickened. Season with salt and pepper. Pour over chicken. Bake 1 1/2 hours. (Excellent with pheasant, too.) |
