FRUIT CAKE (DARK) 
1/3 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
2 c. water
1 c. raisins, ground
1 c. dates, ground
3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
2 c. candied fruit (Cherries & pineapple are best)
2 c. nuts

Combine shortening, sugars, water, raisins and dates in saucepan. Simmer 20 minutes. After it cools, mix together with remaining ingredients. Mix well. Batter will be stiff. Grease pans and line bottoms with waxed paper. Grease waxed paper. Bake at 300 degrees for about 1 hour. Or cake may be baked in bundt pan. It may need more baking time in bundt pan. Be careful not to overbake. Makes about 6 to 8 small pans or 1 bundt pan. Remove immediately from pans and take off wax paper.
