HERBED BEER BREAD 
3 c. self-rising flour
3 tbsp. granulated sugar
1 tbsp. dried Italian herbs
Or 1 tsp. each of oregano, basil & thyme
12 oz. beer, room temperature
1/2 c. Parmesan cheese, grated
1 tbsp. shortening
3 tbsp. cornmeal
2 tbsp. soft butter

In large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cheese and dried herbs. Mix well to combine. Stir in beer to produce stiff batter. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease a loaf pan with the shortening and sprinkle the bottom and sides with cornmeal.

Turn batter into pan. Bake for 65 minutes. Brush baked loaf with softened butter and sprinkle with additional cornmeal if desired. Turn out and cool on rack.
