OATMEAL CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 c. rolled oats
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 1/3 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt

Pour water over oats. Let stand and cool while mixing other ingredients. Measure dry ingredients and resift. Mix butter, sugars, and eggs. Add oats and mix well. Add dry ingredients and mix. Bake in 9 x 13 inch pan for 35 to 40 minutes at 350 degrees.

TOPPING:

3/4 c. brown sugar
6 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. coconut
1/4 c. cream or evaporated milk

Mix ingredients and spread on slightly cooled cake. Place under broiler until brown (about 2 to 2 1/2 minutes).
