BUTTERMILK POUND CAKE 
3 c. sugar
1 c. Crisco
6 eggs, separated
1 c. buttermilk
3 c. flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. lemon extract (& I add 1 tsp. butter flavoring)

Cream sugar and Crisco until fluffy. Add egg yolks. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites last. Bake in greased and floured tube pan in 325 degree oven for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
