PORTUGUESE SWEET BREAD 
2 env. dry yeast
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. very warm water
1 tsp. salt
3/4 c. milk
1/2 c. butter
4 eggs
7 to 7 1/2 c. white flour

1. Sprinkle yeast into 1/2 cup very warm water with 1 teaspoon sugar. Let stand 10 minutes.

2. Heat the milk, butter, salt and remaining sugar in small pan. Cool to lukewarm.

3. Beat eggs in small bowl. Add to yeast mixture. Add 3 cups flour and milk mixture. Add 4 cups flour to make soft dough.

4. Turn out on floured board and knead about 8 to 10 minutes. Put dough in buttered bowl until double (1 hour). Punch down. Let rest 10 minutes.

5. Divide into 3 loaves and let rise 1 hour. Bake 35 to 45 minutes.
