PORTUGUESE SWEET BREAD | |
2 pkgs. dry yeast 1/2 c. warm water 1 c. milk, scalded 1/2 c. butter 2 tsp. salt 6 eggs 1 1/2 c. sugar 8 to 9 c. flour In large mixing bowl, sprinkle yeast over warm water. Add butter and salt to milk and let cool. Beat eggs and sugar. Add milk mixture, then stir into yeast mixture. Add flour and knead to a soft touch. Let sit in oiled bowl until double in size. Knead again on board and divide into 3 to 4 parts. Put in oiled pans (loaf pans) and let rise again until double in size. Cook in preheated oven (350 degrees) for 30 minutes or until done. Butter the tops of baked bread while still hot. Don't cut until cool. |
