MOM'S RAISIN COOKIES 
1 c. water
2 c. raisins
1 c. shortening
1 3/4 c. sugar
2 eggs, beaten lightly
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon and nutmeg
1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Combine raisins and water in pan. Bring to boil and cook 3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. Cream shortening, add sugar and beat until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla, mix well. Combine dry ingredients, add to creamed mixture and blend thoroughly. Stir in nuts and raisins. Drop by teaspoons 2 inches apart on greased sheet. bake at 350 degrees for 12-14 minutes.
